day after the womens day

There was a big fuss on the television for the global celebration of women ,with debates about the kind of progress in social, political and economic field the new age women have made around the world . Media being the only source of such virtual information plays a very important role in our lives. Some spoke of womens love when others spoke of the strengths while women was the topic on all the news channels. i was all smiles and feeling really great though no one from my house had wished me a happy womens day, the idea of celebrating womenhood around the world for a day and India for that matter had made me happy, then followed the Womens Reservation Bill being passed on at The Rajya Sabha that made news today.. As i was walking back home from my friends house in the evening after a small post womens day celebration, i passed by my neighbours house where this well educated , fiat driving man who had on womens day given flowers (which i gladly accepted) to all the women in the colony was hitting his wife for a reason he believed was much more impacting then the whole idea of celebrating the existence of women, when the whole world agreed that women must be treated equally and with respect . I paused for a moment and thought to myself why are we such hypocrites , i put back the flower on his door step as my resentment.
